The Drowsy Chaperone is a comedy within a musical which provides a hilarious parody of the over the top, melodramatic Broadway productions of the 1920's.
The plot centres on Janet Van De Graaff, a showgirl who plans to give up her career in order to marry an oil tycoon, Robert Martin.
Janet is the mega-star of the "Feldzieg Follies" and a lot of money is riding on her name to sell the show. The producer is being threatened with bodily harm by a pair of gangsters - posing as pastry chefs - if the wedding goes ahead.
The ensuing plot incorporates mistaken identities, dream sequences, a Latin Lothario, an unflappable English Butler, a Drowsy Chaperone and so much more!
The cast and crew are so excited to bring this delight of a show to you. This witty and light-hearted show will give you a good laugh and put a smile on your face!
Director of The Drowsy Chaperone, Candy Burgess, saw the production on Broadway around seven years ago and was delighted when she was approved to bring it to the stage for The Bay Theatre Players.
Candy says - "The cast and crew are so excited to bring this delight of a show to you, our patrons. This witty and light-hearted show will give you a good laugh and put a smile on your face!"
In great news for Australian theatre this week, the NSW government have confirmed that Theatre and other entertainment venues have returned to 100 percent capacity from Monday, March 29.
This is excellent news for patrons who will have more opportunities to enjoy theatre productions, but also for Theatres to recover financially after a very long and difficult year.
Come along and show your support for your local community theatre, The Bay Theatre Players, and thoroughly enjoy yourself as well!
Opening night is fully booked. Great seats are available for Saturday, April 10 matinee and evening performances.
The Drowsy Chaperone, directed by Candy Burgess, will open on Friday 9 April 2021, and run for an 18-show season until Saturday 1 May 2021.
