BTP's play explorations will be held monthly on a Wednesday night, to explore all different styles and genres of theatrical scripts and determine what might be an interesting production to bring to the Playhouse stage.
The first play exploration for the year will be Noel Coward's The Vortex.
The Vortex premiered in November 1924 in London and played in three theatres until June 1925, followed by a British tour and a New York production in 1925-26.
The Vortex shot Coward to fame in 1924, both as a playwright and a performer, stunning the critics and causing a sensation in its time with its depiction of sex and drugs in the jazz age.
The play surrounds Florence Lancaster, an ageing socialite who is trying to recapture her youth through extramarital affairs with younger men.
She has a troubled relationship with her adult son, who is newly engaged and in the depths of a serious cocaine habit.
When relationships dissolve, a raw and anguished story unfolds.
The play exploration of The Vortex, will be hosted by Ruth Henderson.
Ruth is an active member of the Bay Theatre Players and was most recently seen in last year's production of Macbeth.
Everyone is welcome on Wednesday, February 19, to join in, just listen or to simply enjoy the chocolate cake.
The Youth Theatre Program for 2020 will start this Sunday, February 9, at the Playhouse.
For young people aged between 8 and 18, who would like to explore performing arts and theatrical performance, it's not too late to register and join in.
Workshops will be held weekly on a Sunday afternoon during term time, starting on February 9.
