Guest speaker will be David O'Toole, IRT Business Development Manager for Southern NSW and the ACT. Given that our demographic is the over 50s, many of our members have, or will have, cause to be involved with the government's My Aged Care Program. Like so many other organisations these days, My Aged Care encourages clients to go online to both seek and provide information. Unfortunately this can prove to be quite daunting. David will be looking at the intricacies of the myagedcare website and will demonstrate how to access and navigate it. He will be available for questions during the break.

EuroSCUG is now entering its 13th year of operation. When we started members had mostly joined because they wanted to communicate online with family. Often they had been given a computer when family had upgraded theirs, and had little or no idea how to use it. The most common request was to learn how to use email and to learn to attach or download photos.

As the digital age has advanced, times have changed, as has equipment. The majority of our members no longer use PCs, in fact some have never used one, and Tablets and Smart Phones are the new normal.

For this reason we are going to trial a change in the format of our meetings. We will still have a guest speaker, but following that, there will be more concentration on one-on-one and small group help. There will still be one or two presentations each meeting but these will usually be hands-on and members will be encouraged to learn on their own devices

Our two presentations this month are both concentrating on the most efficient ways to obtain up-to-date information in an emergency. Charmaine Fripp will be assisting members to set up Facebook so that it can be used to obtain up-to-date information in a single place. She will also discuss the various privacy settings available.

David Num will be covering the apps and information sources he used during the various crises. He will also be demonstrating how and where to create an Emergency Folder containing these, so that all this information can be easily accessed on any device.

There will be the usual Windows /PC help desk for both beginners and advanced users, an Apple Help Desk for help with all Apple products, and a General Help Desk for Tablets and Smart Phones. Additionally, for the first time, there will be a Social Media Help Desk with help available on Twitter, Pin Interest, and Instagram.

EuroSCUG meets at 10am on the first Wednesday of each month at the Moruya Golf Club, and Local Area Groups meet regularly in towns along the Eurobodalla. Monthly phone and tablet groups, both Apple and Android, are also held.
