Three of our past youth theatre attendees have been nominated as best actress or actor in a leading or featured role in a play in the 2019 Canberra Area Theatre (CAT) Awards.
The CAT awards provide recognition for contributions made by non-professional groups to the artistic life of Australia, particularly in Canberra and surrounding regions.
The awards night will be held on April 18, 2020.
Jorja Scott has been nominated for Best Youth Actress in a Leading Role in a play for her portrayal as Gillian in Bay Theatre Players' Dags.
Dags is a contemporary Australian play about adolescence and finding your path in life and was on stage in late March 2019.
Erin Drewsen has been nominated for Best Youth Actress in a Leading Role in a play for her portrayal of Lucy in Bay Theatre Players' The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
It was Erin's first role in a theatre production.
Rounding off the youth theatre nominations is Monty Lloyd Jones for Best Youth Actor in a Featured Role in a Play as the Witch's Driver in Bay Theatre Players The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.
The production was on stage in late November 2019, and was the story of adventures in the magical world of Narnia, where we find witches, goblins and talking animals to name but a few.
The Youth Theatre Information and Registration Day will be held on Sunday, February 2, at 2pm at The Bay Theatre Playhouse, 33 Gregory Street, Batemans Bay.
Young people aged 8 to 18 years, who may be interested in exploring the performing arts, having fun and being creative are invited to come along and learn new skills.
Workshops will be run weekly during school term on a Sunday afternoon, with an aim to equip participants with skills, strategies and practical activities to enable them to feel comfortable in front of an audience or as a step towards being part of the production team.
