Rural Fire Service spokesman Marty Webster said however, he would not want to create an expectation it would open tomorrow.
He said it was "critically important" to open the highway as soon as possible, but safety was more important.
The Kings Highway reopened on Friday, December 13, only to be closed again on Sunday when the Currowan fire broke containment lines.

The Kings Highway remained closed between Narranghi Road and Reid Street.
There was still active fire in the areas around Benandarah, Windywoppa, Currowan and on the northern side of the Kings Highway.
