Transport for NSW said ground stabilisation work would be carried out on the Princes Highway between Clyde Street and North Street, in preparation for the southern approach of the bridge to be constructed.
Northbound traffic would remain on the Princes Highway under traffic control.
Southbound detours would be in place for light vehicles via Clyde Street and North Street.
A reduced speed limit of 40 km/h would also be in place for the safety of workers and road users.
Motorists were advised to check electronic message boards for updates, allow an additional five minutes travel time, and follow the direction of signs and traffic control.
