To be eligible to undertake the trial, dogs must be over the age of two and under the age of eight, a veterinary certificate is to be produce as to their fitness and condition and at the competition they are checked another four times, once prior to commencement, again after eight kilometres, after 14 kilometres and upon completion. They must also undergo a basic obedience test prior to the start and after they finish the test.
Handlers are able to either rider a bicycle or jog the distance. There is a set time to complete the course where you average speeds of 12 kilometres per hour. The handler and dog are allocated a number and you stay in single file following a pace maker across different types of terrain, whether it is grass or dirt, a tarred surface or up and down hills. Well done Melanie and Rosie.
Jan Boyce and her Papillon 'Jasper' competed in their first tracking trial being held near Melbourne and they were successful in gaining a pass with a grading of 'very good'. Congratulations on the wonderful results, you are undoubtedly proving to be a superb competitors having achieved so far this year, two obedience titles, show title, rally o title and now trialling successful in tracking.
The travelling to various venues to train and compete have been very worthwhile and I am positive that you will add more accolades and titles to your trophy cabinet. Well done Jan and Jasper.
Term 4 has already started, but should you intend to enrol this term, tonight (Wednesday) is your final chance with this intake. All handlers and dogs are most welcome to join our Club.
