The first presenter was Cora Num, who demonstrated using Flickr to explore the National Library of Australia’s website. She showed how to search their photostream and browse various albums to find photos of family members or events, and demonstrated this by showing old historical photos of Nelligen and Batemans Bay.
Cora was followed by Margaret Turner, who briefly mentioned the emergency app ICE which she suggested should be installed on the front screen of everyone’s smartphone. She then covered the Messenger app which uses an encrypted process that enables private conversations to be conducted on screen. It can be used with or without Facebook.
Next David Num showed how to use various internet browsers efficiently and effectively. He explained how to change the browser home page and how to save favourite websites and organise them into different folders for easy access.
After morning tea, Amanda Annabel demonstrated the app MedAdvisor, which can be used to manage your medications. It will link with your My Health Record, enabling you to leave your prescriptions at a pharmacy and receive reminders and keep track of medications for yourself and those you care for, all in one App.
At EuroSCUG’s next meeting, at 10am on Wednesday, November 7, at Moruya Golf Club, the guest speaker will be Darren Marcus, local Digital Health Officer, who will speak about My Health Record, its benefits, privacy, security, and how to opt out of the program.
After morning tea, members can choose to join one of the small groups which will be covering Genealogy, Christmas Letters, and Installing a Solid State Drive in a Laptop. A Beginners Group and Help Desk will also be available.
EuroSCUG is a group of seniors sharing computer experiences and friendship. Members meet at 10am on the first Wednesday of the month at Moruya Golf Club, and local area groups meet regularly in towns along the Eurobodalla. Monthly tablet groups are also held.
