All of our qualified instructors volunteer their time freely and are very enthusiastic about assisting handlers achieve their goals with their canine companions. Our classes are conducted in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, where dogs learn to socialise with other dogs in a calm way.
We assist handlers in teaching the basics of dog obedience using Positive Motivational Methods, with rewards such as food and lots of praise to encourage the dog to repeat desired behaviours, rather than forceful negative methods. Our club is a not-for-profit social community organisation whose primary aim is to promote responsible dog ownership in the Eurobodalla and surrounding area. It is a wonderful way to get out and about, learn new methods of dog training, with both you and your dog getting good exercise.
For new members, you are about to commence a new journey with your canine family member and we applaud you for making this decision, we all began there where you are today. A bit of perseverance, determination, small amounts of practice and a light-hearted manner to training the exercises taught to you, will go a long way towards turning your dog into an obedient canine citizen.
During the months of August and September several members and their dogs from Eurobodalla Canine Club participated in a variety of dog sport competitions with numerous titles and successes attained. All the hard work and dedicated training has been very worthwhile.
At the Canberra trial in cool conditions, Wayne Kelly and his German Shepherd, Danny, completed a 20 kilometre endurance trial to achieve their endurance title. Well done, all that cycle training has been rewarding for both handler and dog spending quality time enjoying the great outdoors.
At the Nowra trials, Karen Gould and Harmon scored 95/100 in Rally Novice and their title, as well as 89/100 in CCD and 1st place; Hilary Coulton and Monty scored 99/100 in Rally Novice and 1st place and 179/200 in CD and 3rd place; Lyn Watcham with Lilly scored 88/100 in CCD and 2nd place and with Issy in Rally Masters 96/100; Jan Boyce and Pocket scored 90/100 in Rally Excellent and 2nd place; Lee Backhouse and Murphy scored 91/100 in Rally Novice and Pat Pearson and Ngatai also passed in Rally Novice.
At Kemps Creek in Sydney, Wayne Kelly and Danny passed their Track 1 and the judge graded the pass as good. They need one more pass at this level to achieve this title. It certainly has been a busy month for this trialling combination.
At the Canberra trials held in late August, Magda Smyth and Nalu scored 185/200 in UD and Carolyn Drew and Bronte attained their 3rd pass at CDX scoring 174/200, second place and their title. This combination had been chasing the third elusive pass for a considerable amount of time, but finally success, they have that title. Persistence and patience has paid dividends, as it can be something extremely minor that can cost the handler and their dog a passing score.
At the Canberra trials on September 1, Karen Gould and Harmon passed CCD scoring 86/100 and their title, making it two titles for the month, well done. Magda Smyth and Nalu achieved 2 passes in UD scoring 194/200 and 1st place and 177/200 and 2nd place. They now need one more pass in UD with a minimum score of 185 to attain their Obedience Champion title. We wish them the best in their future trials.
