Zorro is a three-and-a-half year old Maltese-Shih Tzu cross. He was rescued in Moruya, by Anne Derham – but his forever home is in the trendy suburb of St Kilda, Victoria.
What attracted you to this pet?
What’s not to be attracted to? The eyes have it. I recently lost a beloved rescue dog and I felt I was not ready to adopt again. However, the opportunity to adopt Zorro came up and so ...
How did you make the decision to adopt a rescue animal?
My cousin was Zorro’s foster carer. She brought him to my attention as she felt he and I would be a good fit. I travelled from Melbourne to Moruya to meet him.
What is the best thing about your new friend?
Zorro is alert, funny, highly engaged and sociable, obedient and sweet tempered. He is crazy about his squeaky pig, and adores the beach, practically turning himself inside out when he smells the water. He’s pretty much the perfect companion, and I’m confident he’ll be a much loved little fellow for a long time. Turns out he was well worth the 16 hour drive!
Why would you encourage others to consider a rescue pet?
Even apart from the prices charged by breeders for fashionable breeds cross-breeds, I would only ever adopt or rescue. Too many animals are surrendered and in need of homes; too many suffer and are needlessly euthanased. I am a keen supporter of Oscar’s Law and all adoption and rescue initiatives.
