The Malua Bay service station is being torn down this morning, Wednesday, October 4, to make way for new development.
The site has stood derelict for a number of years, on the corner of George Bass Drive and Kuppa Avenue.
A development application for a multi-level hotel on the site was lodged with the Eurobodalla Shire Council in January.
The council’s director of planning and sustainability, Lindsay Usher, said they were pleased to receive the application.
“This is an exciting development and proposed use of a site much in need of redevelopment,” Mr Usher said.
“Council has worked with the applicant; providing advice to assist with the preparation of the development application.”
“The proposal to develop the site shows confidence in the local economy and the future of Eurobodalla’s tourism industry,” he said.
Mr Usher said the application required referral to the NSW Rural Fire Service for their assessment and response before the council can determine if it will be approved.
