Phone scammers are again targeting Eurobodalla businesses and residents, threatening them with arrest for unpaid tax debts.
Several residents have reported such incidents in recent months.
A Batemans Bay retailer this week warned she had received a convincing phone call this week, in which a recorded message was played from a person purporting to be from the Australian Tax Office (ATO).
The businesswoman warned the scam was sophisticated.
The caller said if a bill was not paid, the next step would be debt collection and legal action. It was also suggested the police could become involved.
The ATO first raised concerns in 2015 about the spread of an aggressive scam threatening taxpayers.
Hundreds have lodged complaints with the ATO after being told they needed to settle their fake debt over the phone.
