RFS crews have succeeded in bringing a bushfire at Wimbie St in Surf Beach under control, a spokesperson for the service said on Monday, January 23.
Up to 13 personnel have been trying to contain the blaze, which broke out at about 2.20pm on Saturday, January 21.
South Coast RFS manager John Cullen said the conditions and landscape have made containment difficult for the crews.
“A lot of the vegetation around the area is very dry, which has made it hard,” he said.
“It was also windy on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. It is less windy today, which should make it easier.”
Mr Cullen said there are still five units at the site, who are patrolling the containment area.
Aviation resources were used on the weekend to drop water in inaccessible areas, a procedure Mr Cullen described as “very effective”.
