The Bay Post understands a cable on the bridge became jammed just after noon. Traffic on on the highway was backed up for more than two kilometres.
Roads and Maritime Services apologises for the inconvenience and thanks motorists for their patience while work was carried out.
This is the the third time this week the bridge has suffered a mechanical fault.
Delays were experienced on the Batemans Bay bridge after a mechanical issue led to a 30-minute hold up for motorists on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 5.
Details emerged of further delays on Thursday, October 6, when the pedestrians trying to cross the bridge reported a 15-minute wait.
