He warned the fire was moving on its eastern flank into private property.
Superintendent Cullen confirmed the fire began when a hazard reduction burn on private land reignited in Wednesday, September 13’s wind.
The fire spotted across Burri Road that evening into a quarry west of George Bass Drive. This remains uncontained and heavy machinery is likely to be used today.
A second spot fire in the Annies Lane area has been contained.
Residents are on full alert. Some have chosen to leave, but there have been no forced evacuations.
Superintendent Cullen said volunteers and machinery would be used this morning to control the northern sector, from Blackbutt Road and back around to Dunns Creek Road.
The southern edge of the section has not yet been contained and they hoped to get machinery in there today.
Fire crews are also patrolling another fire which began yesterday morning in suspicious circumstances at Nerrigundah.
That fire was brought under control yesterday, with the help of backburning on the western side of Nerrigundah, but smouldering vegetation and stumps remain.
Crews worked late into the night.
Superintendent Cullen warned residents to be vigilant after a spate of arson attacks in the shire and to report any suspicious activity to police on 1800 333 000.
