Here's a brief summary of what our councillors will be discussing:
Reintroducing livestream of public forum and public access sessions
As part of his first mayor report, Mat Hatcher wants to reintroduce the livestreaming of council public forums and public access sessions.
Mr Hatcher argues the webcasting of council meetings increases the transparency of council decision-making. He wants community members to be able to watch council public forums and fellow residents presenting to council from their own homes.
Mr Hatcher wants the live streaming of public forums to begin from February 22, with public access to follow on March 1.
The council will vote on the issue.
Deciding on a deputy mayor
Council doesn't have to elect a deputy mayor and so the councillors will vote on whether to appoint a councillor to this position. If they vote in favour, the councillors will then vote to appoint a councillor to the position of deputy mayor.
The deputy mayor may be elected for the mayoral term, or a shorter period. Their role is to fill in for the mayor in the event of absence or illness. This could include chairing meetings, performing citizenship ceremonies or attending community events.
Voting on councillor superannuation
The Mayor and Councillors are paid an allowance in accordance with the council resolution and the Local Government Remuneration Tribunal's annual determination. Until 2021, councillors were ineligible to receive superannuation, however that was changed by the Local Government Act in 2021.
Councillors will vote on whether they should receive superannuation. They would receive an amount inline with Commonwealth superannuation legislation if they were an employee of the council.
Appointing a councillor to the regional planning panel
The Eurobodalla is part of the Southern Regional Planning Panel, which makes decisions on regionally significant development.
Mr Lindsay Usher is council's representative on the panel, and acts as the required expert candidate.
Council must vote to appoint a councillor to also serve on the panel for the entirety of the council term.
Previously, councillor Rob Pollock served in the position.
Delegate councillors to conferences
There are nine conferences scheduled for 2022 that councillors may attend as professional development, to represent residents and to gain insights useful for council.
The council will determine which councillors will attend each of the following conferences:
- LGNSW Special Conference on 28 February - 2 March 2022.
- LGNSW Destination and Visitor Economy Conference on 17-29 May 2022
