He passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 16, age 84.
Mr Hickson was one of the founding members of the Moruya Antique Tractor and Machinery Association (MATMA) in 1996 and since then has been either President or Secretary, two roles which required huge dedication and passion.
In 2001, he helped break a world record when he took part in the Guinness Book of Records "Plough and be Counted" attempt in Yass.
After the 2019/20 bushfires destroyed the clubs' machinery and assets, Mr Hickson worked tirelessly to resurrect the group.
Yet fellow MATMA member Rob Patterson said Mr Hickson's interests extended far beyond vintage machinery.
"In his younger days he was a very competitive motor racer, competing in touring car racing and especially Formula V racing," Mr Patterson said.
"More recently he was a very keen V8 Supercars spectator and especially Formula One watcher, keeping a close eye on the direction of the sport and the progress of the Aussies, like Mark Webber and Daniel Ricciardo."
Mr Hickson also excelled in modelling, particularly vintage fighter and bomber aircraft from WW1.
"His hands might have been old, but they were steady and some of his creations are fabulous," Mr Patterson said.
"His thirst for knowledge was insatiable."
Mr Hickson will be remembered as a well respected, decent, clean living man and he will be greatly missed.
His daughters Jenny and Virginia advised due to COVID there will be a private cremation and the family will hold a celebration of his life at a later date when everyone can gather.
