Batemans Bay Rural Fire Service Brigade has been fighting the Currowan fire, helped set up the Batemans Bay evacuation centre and kept worried evacuees and others informed at information sessions.
Debunking urban myths has been another task.
In a crisis, unverified reports can spread quickly, creating unnecessary fear or, worse, danger.
Deputy captain Jesse Tonge urged people to get the facts from the Fires Near Me app, the RFS website or from Fire and Rescue NSW.
"People want to know what is going on," he said.
"We do not want people guessing and assuming."
At the evacuation centre, the crew was able to put people at ease and help them get ready.
"It is not all about firefighting; it is about helping people prepare."
Firefighter Ben Schutz was on the Currowan fire ground on the night of December 1 and took the above photographs.
