A spokesperson said planning was "progressing well".
"Geotechnical investigations are now underway to inform the development of early design options," the spokesperson said.
"The data from these investigations will be used alongside land and utility surveys and traffic modelling to develop design options for a safe and efficient connection for the Link Road and Princes Highway."
Investigations would be carried out on The Ridge Road from Monday, August 26 and continue during weekdays between 7am and 6pm and Saturdays between 8am and 1pm for around three weeks, weather permitting.
The Ridge Road would be closed to traffic during work hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays between the Princes Highway and Glenella Road.
Traffic would be detoured via George Bass Drive.
A reduced speed limit of 40 km/h could also be required at times on the Princes Highway near The Ridge Road intersection and motorists were advised to check roadside electronic message boards for updates.
A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the NSW Government had provided $30 million for the development and delivery of the Link Road - Princes Highway connection.
