The long-awaited link road on the Princes Highway south of Batemans Bay is a step closer, with the commencement of geotechnical investigations at the site.

Bega MP and Roads Minister Andrew Constance said surveys were underway for the $30 million project to link Batehaven to the highway.
"Survey, geotechnical and preliminary environmental investigation work is being carried out to identify locations of utilities, and determine the types of soil, geology, plants and animals within the project area," Mr Constance said.
"Once complete, this work will inform early design options for a safe and efficient connection to the Princes Highway.
"Connecting the Link Road to the Princes Highway will offer an alternative route to the various residential areas and beaches south of Batemans Bay CBD and will take pressure off Beach Road, particularly during peak traffic times and holiday periods."

The project was announced in the first term of the Coalition NSW Government four years ago and the Glenella Road upgrade linking Heron Road at Catalina to Batehaven has been completed.
"$10 million provided by the NSW Government has enabled Eurobodalla Shire Council to complete stage one of the works, with the construction of Glenella Road now finalised," he said.
"Eurobodalla Shire Mayor, Liz Innes has played a vital role in her continued advocacy of this project, I thank her and the team at Council on the work to get stage one of the project delivered and the continued push towards stage two."
He said project investigations are underway on Ridge Road and the Princes Highway on weekdays between 7am and 6pm and are expected to continue until early 2020.
"This work will have minimal impact to traffic but motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, pay attention and follow the directions of signs for the safety of workers and road users," he said.
"Motorists will be advised of any changed traffic conditions or extended work hours as they occur."
