There were plenty of cheers and tears in Batemans Bay for the Queen’s Baton Relay on Tuesday.
Spectators celebrated 29 baton bearers when the 2018 Commonwealth Games baton made its way through Batemans Bay.
The Batemans Bay leg marked Day 43 of the baton’s 100-day journey through Australian cities and towns in the lead up to the Gold Coast Games in April.
The baton kicked off its journey at Batemans Bay Public School and was taken to Korners Park, where it was then ferried across the Clyde River.
Crowds lined the streets as baton bearers carried the precious cargo along Orient Street and Beach Road, to a community celebration at Corrigans Beach in Batehaven.
Waiting for the procession at Corrigans Beach was a crowd of school children and spectators, who gave shire health champion Brad Rossiter a celebrity welcome.
Helping farewell the baton was former Commonwealth Games gymnast Andrei Kravtsov, who took the baton aboard a seaplane for the final leg of the relay.
The baton is now making its way through Tasmania and will continue through other Australian towns and cities in its journey to the opening ceremony of the Games.
The 2018 Commonwealth Games baton relay is the longest in history and will travel through every state and territory.
