A stunning waterfront location in Batemans Bay could offer the perfect business sea change option for an experienced restaurateur or cafe owner.
The 175 square metre building with a 60 square metre sundeck overlooking the Clyde River was formerly home to the Barkala Kitchen and Bar that satisfied the appetites and thirsts of beach-goers with Mediterranean inspired tapas and more.
Agent Robert McBride, of Elders Batemans Bay, says the restaurant is in an unrivalled location.

“And it’s a great area with plenty of dining options – everyone loves to wander there for a meal and to enjoy a sundowner.”
The restaurant has recently been renovated with new paint and carpets and is ready for a new owner or investor.
“This is an exciting opportunity for a young chef or restaurant operator with fresh ideas and energy,” McBride says.
“Batemans Bay has a mixture of locals, tourists and regular visitors from Sydney and Canberra – they’re used to a range of dining options and the right operator could really make their mark.”
McBride says there is seating capacity inside and on the sundeck for 70 patrons, but that the latter was owned by and leased from the council.
“Commercial properties in Batemans Bay are becoming pretty rare. I can only think of about three others that are for sale at the moment,” he says.
“Add to that a waterfront location and you begin to understand what an opportunity this really is.”
McBride says the local market has been running strongly this year and residential properties under $400,000 were disappearing fast.
“There’s probably only about four left in that price range, but our real challenge is supply,” he says.
“We’ve got no shortage of buyers – they’re coming from Sydney, Canberra and elsewhere, but family homes, particularly, are in very short supply.
“Any new development that comes to market is being snapped up quick,” McBride says.
He attributes part of the reason for the buzzing Batemans Bay property market to ever-improving road infrastructure.
“It’s pretty much freeway once you get to Nowra from here – you can just about do Sydney in three hours,” he says.
“That’s bringing us so much closer to the Sydney market.”
