Officers were notified of a body in the water at Joes Creek, Beach Road, Batehaven just before 9am on Tuesday, April 18.
Batemans Bay SES volunteers helped officers retrieve the body of a male at about 10.20am.
Far South Coast LAC Detective Inspector Angela Burnell said it was too early to determine the cause of death.
“We can confirm a deceased male has been located,” Inspector Burnell said.
“The area is currently cordoned off as a crime scene and investigations are continuing.”
Inspector Burnell said it was not known how long the body had been in the water.
