There were three major accidents on Dunns Creek Road this week after rain fell in the area.
A spokeswoman for NSW Roads and Maritime Services confirmed the road had a history of accidents.
She said there had been 14 crashes on Dunns Creek Road between 2011 and 2015 – with eight people injured, four seriously –and that excessive speed was a contributing factor in 75 per cent of these accidents.
Minister Constance said increasing driver awareness was necessary.
”There is no doubt some of our arterial roads, such as Dunns Creek, need particular care when driving,” he said.
“But we must also recognise our road network has areas of challenging road that require further improvement.
“Ultimately, these are council roads.
“Councils receive significant funding from the NSW and, particularly, the Federal Governments to maintain the roads they are responsible for,” Minister Constance said.
