A NSW Fire and Rescue spokesperson said the Braidwood crew was called to the fire at the top of the Clyde Mountain at 7.56am on Tuesday, January 18.
"The blaze broke out just before 8am as the truck was travelling on the Kings Highway," they said.
"Crews from the Braidwood Fire Station were joined by police and the Rural Fire Service at the scene were flames had engulfed the rig, which was carrying a couple of excavators.
"Firefighters saved the heavy machinery as they took control of the blaze, but the truck was destroyed."
The spokesperson said nobody was hurt during the incident.
"Crews finished mopping up the scene at 10.50am," they said.
"The cause of the fire is yet to be determined."
Superintendent Scott Dodson from Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) said this is a timely reminder that calling Triple Zero (000) when you are involved in or see a crash can be the difference between life and death.
