In response, an expo at Moruya's Riverside Park next Saturday, May 22 will showcase some of the many organisations in the area who offer volunteering opportunities to people of all ages.
Eurobodalla Council's community development coordinator Zoe Morgan said young people felt it was important to be connected to the community and to help its recovery following the fires.
"We'll also be launching a comprehensive volunteer guide at the expo that promotes the shire's diversity of volunteer organisations and provides helpful information for potential volunteers," she said.
"While these volunteering resources were developed with youth in mind, the expo and volunteer guide are great initiatives for the whole community to get involved with.
"There's never been a better time to volunteer. It provides so many benefits; from the skills you learn and the connections you make, to being able to give back to your local community in a meaningful way."
The Eurobodalla Volunteer Expo will be held at Moruya's Riverside Park, alongside the Moruya Country Market, on Saturday, May 22 from 10am.
Stalls will include SAGE, WIRES, RSPCA, Nature Coast Marine Group, Council volunteer opportunities, including Y drive, and more.
The Eurobodalla Volunteer Guide will be available at local libraries and schools after the expo, or have a look at the volunteering category of the Eurobodalla Community Directory.
