The shire’s Rise for Climate group will join events internationally and across Australia calling on decision makers “to take a lead in building the fossil free future we need”.
Organiser Allan Rees said two groups would set off from Batemans Bay and Batehaven and converge on Korners Park, on the north side of the Clyde River.
“Our theme for the day will be promoting Active, Inclusive Transport, demanding better and safer access for people walking or using wheelchairs or bicycles,” he said.
“This would allow people to reduce their use of fossil fuels by using their cars less as well as promote health and wellbeing.
“Some of us will walk across Batemans Bay Bridge from Korners Park, off Wharf Rd, setting off at 1.30 pm.
“Others will cycle from the car park at Corrigans Beach setting off at 1.30pm. There will be prizes for the best decorated children’s bikes.
“We will all arrive at Foreshore Park in Clyde St, Batemans Bay at 2pm where there will be music, stalls and speeches.
“Award winning local band “sacred cow” will perform. This all original, upbeat, genre jumping outfit has a new song written especially for Rise for Climate.
“Events have been planned on every continent. Rise for Climate is the lead up to the Global Climate Action Summit taking place in California. National and state governments and city councils, business leaders and activists will get together to drive greater action and commitment for our planet.”
There will also be a Rise for Climate event in Narooma at Apex Park at 11.00 am. People will form the letters Rise for Earth and be filmed by a drone.
