Eurobodalla residents can rid their homes of unwanted chemicals for free this month, thanks to the Eurobodalla Shire Council’s annual Household Chemical Cleanout.
The chemical cleanout enables householders to take unwanted chemicals to designated drop-off points at Batemans Bay, Moruya and Narooma, on the weekend of September 15 and 16. Council will accept paints, fungicides, oxidisers, weed killers, household cleaners, fuel, oils, syringes, poisons, acids and alkalis, pool chemicals, gas cylinders, medicines, fertilisers and smoke detectors. However, asbestos, explosives, clinical waste and radioactive materials will not be accepted.
Household hazardous chemicals should not be poured down drains or onto the ground. They have the potential to cause physical injury, contaminate wastewater treatment systems, land and drinking water supplies, and present a hazard to children and pets.
Detailed information about what will and won’t be accepted at the Household Chemical Cleanout is in the Household Waste and Recycling Guide, which was delivered to homes earlier this year. Or check out council’s website www.esc.nsw.gov.au/wasteandrecycling
