The girls had an unexpectedly early start on Saturday, but were able to relax after the number of crews competing in the u19s dropped out.
With two strong efforts in the lake, the girls placed second and third respectively qualifying for Sunday’s finals.
In the semi-final, Broulee charged through the break quicker than Newport, Terrigal and Wanda, sustained their boat speed and finished first by nearly five boat lengths in front of Newport and Terrigal.
In the final after leading Newport almost the entire way, Broulee was a bit slow out of the turn, missing a vital runner and allowing Newport to gain a slight advantage. The two crews battled stroke for stroke all the way home with Newport gabbing a wave just ahead of Broulee for the win.
