Acting on a recommendation from the Southern Zone, the Shoalhaven District Cricket Association called off the junior and senior games on the weekend, citing the impact of the forecast heat on player welfare.
While Batemans Bay Junior Cricket Club president Andrew Malcolm said he could understand why the decision was made by the association, he believed cricket could have been played in the Bay on the weekend.
“We probably could have played in the conditions here on Saturday, but our hands were tied,” he said.
“The association was going off a recommendation from higher up, and they obviously didn’t want to take any chances.
“At the end of the day, it’s a Saturday where we didn’t play, which is disappointing."
