The dangers posed by rips will be highlighted at beaches across the Eurobodalla this Australia Day.
Lifeguarding Services Australia and Eurobodalla Shire Council have partnered up for the exercises which will take place at eight beaches across the shire on Thursday, January 26, from 10am
A Eurobodalla Shire Council spokesperson said a fluorescent green sea dye would be used to identify dangerous currents at Surf Beach, Malua Bay, South Broulee Beach, North Head Moruya, South Head Moruya, One Tree Beach at Tuross Head, Dalmeny Beach and Narooma’s Surf Beach.
“The initiative aims to improve surf safety by educating beachgoers about how dangerous rip currents flow,” a council spokesperson said.
The exercise follows similar demonstrations at Eurobodalla beaches in early January.
