Moruya trainer Wade Mathie had any distance concerns regarding his mare, Tipta Tantivity, dispelled at the Moruya Showcase meet, as the six-year-old took out the race two, 2000m Showcase Handicap on Monday.
A $4 starter for the race, the mare held off a fast finishing D’Beak in the straight to win by less than a length.
Mathie said the horse passed the 2000m test with flying colours.
“It’s her first start over this distance so it was a bit of an experiment,” he said.
“We always thought she was capable of doing it, and in the end, she went very well.”
“There’s a 2000m race at Sapphire Coast in a couple of weeks and a 1800m Highway Handicap race coming up, which is also an option.
“We just have to see how she pulls up.”
