The NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI) helicopter spotted a 2.5 metre white shark off Moruya Heads Beach just before 9am on January 11.
Lifeguarding Services Australia chief Stan Wall said the shark was sighted 10 metres from the shore, between North Head and Broulee Beach.
“We’ve closed North Head, Broulee and Moruya Beach,” Mr Wall told the Bay Post/Moruya Examiner.
“At the moment we have a jet ski being launched out of North Head and have sent someone across to the small beaches next to Moruya to notify surfers.
“We’ll try to utilise the (Westpac) Lifesaver 23 helicopter for a flyover.”
Mr Wall said the beaches were expected to be closed until a reevaluation was undertaken at 10am.
This is the second shark sighting off Moruya within a week.
The Moruya and North Head beaches were closed by lifeguards after a suspected great white shark was spotted 10 metres from the shore on January 5.
