NEARLY 6000 people in the region were subjected to random breath tests during Operation Safe Arrival over the long weekend.
A police spokesman said that 5959 drivers were tested, 37 drivers were given speeding tickets, 34 others were given traffic infringement notices and three seat belt infringement notices were handed out over the double-demerit period.
DRUGS FOUND
A POLICE drug dog found cannabis in the car of a man on the Kings Highway at Monga on Friday night.
Far South Coast police’s Target Action Group, which was conducting operation Cookie Cutter, stopped the vehicle at 7.35pm for a random breath test.
The dog searched the car and found the cannabis.
The breath test was negative but police believed the man was affected by drugs. He was arrested and taken to Braidwood Hospital for a blood and urine test, the results of which are pending.
During the same operation, a 36-year-old ACT man was caught with amphetamine and prohibited drug utensils in his car.
He was issued with a field court attendance notice and will appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on March 2.
