Moruya Basketball hosted an exciting grand final day at Moruya Stadium on Sunday with two out of the five matches being decided in overtime.

The under 14s got the day’s action underway with the Julie Moore coached Cruisebrokers defeating Tim Hodges’ New Bay Movers 37-34 in a match that had to be decided in overtime. New Bay Movers finished the game with only two players on the court after three of their players fouled out.
Holly Moore (21 points) and Leroy Brogan (10) led the way for Cruisebrokers while Adele Lotze (8) and Matt Holder (8) were the top scorers for New Bay Movers. New Bay Movers player Jack Hodges was named MVP for his performance while Brogan and Holder picked up encouragement awards.
The next match to tip-off was the under 17s grand final which saw Art Café defeat Swans 67-53. Swans player Sarah Hazel was named MVP after scoring 21 points while Kate Butler also chipped in with 17. Grady Meek led the scoring for Art Café with 25 points while Antony Butler, Abbie Harrison and Tom Buckle all contributed 12 points apiece. Buckle also picked up the encouragement award.
In the under 12s grand final, the Caroline Harding coached South Coast Beverages side defeated Stuart Scobie’s Tip Top 22-13. Jarryd Cursio picked up the MVP award after scoring 8 points for South Coast Beverages. He received good support from Jeremy Harding, Joel Monck and Tarsharna Nye who all scored four points. Daon Hanson was the top scorer for Tip Top with nine points.
The open women’s grand final was another thriller with All Sportz prevailing over Jazz 42-40 in overtime. Lisa Price picked up the MVP award in her final game for All Sportz. Cath Prow (12) and Karen Hadley (11) were the top point scorers for All Sportz while Kate Butler (17) and Sarah Ladbrow (12) led the way for Jazz.
The day’s action wrapped up with the men’s grand final where Crusaders defeated Box Railers 41-35. Ryan Nobbs and Travis Kingston scored 12 points each for Crusaders while Taylor Sneddon chipped in with 11 points. Joe Van Weerdenburg (15) and Gerard Van Weedenburg (12) led the way for Box Railers.
Moruya Basketball would like to thank match officials Zoe Monk, Mia Johnston, Adele Lotze, Abbie Harrison, Sam McPaul and Robyn Scott-Busch for their efforts on the day.
The club also received assistance with the scorebench, office, barbecue and coordination of the day from Donna Berry, Rhiannon Sheppheard, Jayne Harrison, Laurie Masterson, Debbie Jones, Carley Spindler, Kerry Meek, Cris McPaul, Pheobe Shepheard, Joel Monck, Grady Meek, Sarah Hazell, and Nicole Kemp.
The day also marked the end of the Price family’s involvement in Moruya Basketball. Lisa Price played her last game for All Sportz at Moruya on Sunday. Lisa has played at Moruya for over 20 years, and has coached local teams and represented Moruya Swans as a junior as has her daughter Emily. Kate, Ben and Kelly Price are all huge contributors in the junior competition and will be missed by their team mates and the basketball community.
