Assistant director at Shorebreakers, Shannon Edwards said they had closed the centre on Thursday morning, November 4 and had asked all parents to collect children as soon as they were notified.
"We have closed the centre as a precaution because we are putting the safety of the children and their families first," Ms Edwards said.
She confirmed that a local resident and family member of a child who attends the preschool has tested positive "and had contact with staff".
"The centre is closed and all staff are getting tested," Ms Edwards said.
"We are waiting on test results for the child who attended (who is related to the person who has tested positive)," Ms Edwards added.
"We are really proud of how everyone reacted; the families have been very supportive and the children are so resilient, we've all been through so much," Ms Edwards said.
The news follows the announcement of COVID-19 virus fragments being found at the Merimbula sewage treatment plant from testing on Sunday, October 31.
There are also reports that the Waterfront Cafe, Merimbula may have been affected by a COVID case and closed at about 11am on Thursday morning.
Any positive cases from Thursday, November 4 will be included in the case numbers presented by Southern NSW Local Health District on Friday morning, November 5.
