The new track, known as the Murramarang South Coast Walk, was unveiled on Monday, June 21, after "extensive community consultation" according to an NPWS spokesperson.
NPWS South Coast Director Kane Weeks said more than 100 submissions were received during the public exhibition of the draft master plan and that community feedback has shaped the final track features and design.
"This $3.64 million project will deliver an uninterrupted, 48-kilometre walking track that follows the coastline through Murramarang National Park and Murramarang Aboriginal Area," he said.
"This track will connect the villages of Maloneys Beach, Durras, Depot Beach, Kioloa and Bawley Point and offer walkers a year-round, unique way to experience this part of the Coast.
"In finalising the design for the track, NPWS listened to feedback from the community on a range of issues from accessibility to the provision and location of facilities.
"The Master Plan released today includes changes requested by the community such as more public facilities along the walk, stairs to connect Maloneys Beach and the Archeron Trail and an adjustment to the size of the Maloneys Beach carpark.
"This was genuine consultation and I would like to thank the community for not only taking the time to send in a submission but for getting on board with the Master Plan process.
"The modified track design is sensitive to the area's natural and cultural values while also enabling walkers to get in and explore lesser known parts of the region's coastline."
Construction on the project is expected to start later this year as part of a $257 million investment in visitor infrastructure in the state's national parks.
