A spokesperson for the players, Jen Aspinall said the cast are getting to know one another and have taken on their roles with enthusiasm and the support crew are organising backstage, sorting costumes and props, and painting and building the set.
"At the same time Children of the Black Skirt cast are well into rehearsals, including accent coaching with Lynette Wheatley to add authenticity to their characters.
"The three emerging young actors are immersing themselves in the world of the play, taking on the challenge of each playing multiple roles as they tell the stories of the forgotten children who came to the orphanage over the years," Ms Aspinall said.
The play explores Australia's history and the healing power of storytelling. The Bay Theatre Players are looking forward to bringing this play to audiences in September 2021.
Ms Aspinall went on to say that many of the young people involved in the two major productions, are also spending much of their time rehearsing their school musicals.
"Carroll College are presenting Baz Luhrmann's Strictly Ballroom on June 23 to 24 at the College in Broulee and Batemans Bay High are presenting Chimera, - a study of human needs and human greed presented through music, dance, circus and more - from June 21 to 24 at the high school.
"Don't miss these productions, audiences will be astounded by our young local talent," she said.
Play Exploration coming up
The Bay Theatre Players next play exploration is "Mumma Mia!", a musical written by Catherine Johnson, based on the songs of ABBA composed by Benny Andersson and Bjrn Ulvaeus.
ABBA's hits tell the hilarious story of a young woman's search for her birth father. This funny and heart-warming funny tale unfolds on a Greek island paradise. On the eve of her wedding, a daughter's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past back to the island they last visited 20 years ago.
Come along at 7pm, on Wednesday, June 30 at The Playhouse, 33 Gregory St Batemans Bay. It will be a great evening, there are many themes and songs to explore, and you can help the Bay Theatre Players decide whether this play would be suitable for a future production.
