A spokesperson for the players said the two exciting productions couldn't be more different - one with a cast of three, and the other with a cast more than 25; one with serious and thought-provoking themes, the other a kooky and fun sing along.
"The Bay Theatre Players continue their commitment to bringing variety and diversity to their audiences and are pleased to announce their next play exploration is When the Rain Stops Falling, by renowned Australian Playwright, Andrew Bovell.
"This is a play about family, secret legacies and forgiveness seen across four generations and spanning two continents," the spokesperson said.
When the Rain Stops Falling had its world premiere as part of the 2008 Adelaide Festival of Arts. The play takes place in various timeframes between 1959 and 2039, in rural Alice Springs and Coorong, Australia and London.
The play opens to the sound of rain falling in Alice Springs in 2039, where we follow an eccentric chap, Gabriel York, waiting for a visit from his son Andrew from London. The play explores themes of self-identity, love and much more as the characters try to retrace their family history, referenced well by the opening monologue from Gabriel;
"I know what he wants. He wants what all young men want from their fathers. He wants to know who he is. Where he comes from. Where he belongs. And for the life of me I don't know what to tell him."
