The Bywong resident visits Batehaven regularly and did the drawing over three nights, based on photos.
“I am a retired lecturer in architecture and like to produce pen and ink sketches of buildings all over the world,” he told the Bay Post.
“I will be sad to see this magnificent piece of great industrial design disappear.
“With the pelicans on the light posts, it is an icon of Batemans Bay.”
The artist does not like to profit from his work, preferring to sell his drawings to help raise funds for charity.
The Batemans Bay bridge has caused traffic headaches for motorists and authorities in recent years, when the bridge lifting span mechanism has failed.
Its 50th birthday was celebrated in 2016, with a massive party on the foreshore, fireworks and a bridge walk.
It will be replaced with a multi-lane concrete structure.
The project was the subject of a public tender process.
