“Got Your Bags?” is the simple question put to shoppers to remind people to bring reusable bags with them when shopping in Moruya.
The banners and posters are backed by a mailout to all households in the 2537 postcode telling residents about the campaign, as well as street stalls, where volunteers will talk with shoppers about ways to remember to bring reusable bags with them.
Business Chamber President Jude Manahan said the aim of the campaign was for Moruya to grow to be a town completely free of single use plastic bags.
“We have tremendous support from businesses and the wider community for the campaign,” Ms Manahan said.
“People are increasingly aware of the damage single-use plastic bags can do in the environment.”
Ms Manahan said the drive for the BYO Bag campaign came from within the business community.
The education campaign has been supported by Eurobodalla Shire Council and implemented by volunteers coordinated by the Moruya Business Chamber.
The push follows the removal of single-use plastic bags in Woolworths and Coles supermarkets across the state.
