The ERDA coach Sue Feeney said the riders had learnt traditional mounted games like flagging and bending.
“They have also learnt the newer games, like Crazy8 and Snakes and Ladders,” Ms Feeney said.
“The newer races mean everyone can participate – some of the traditional games required leaning off the horse or picking stuff up with one hand, which precluded some RDA riders.”
Ms Feeney said the skills required for mounted games demonstrate what the ERDA about.
“Not only physical and balance improvements, but learning and retaining instruction and keeping cool under pressure, and working as part of a team: “These are all important life skills”.
The trip will be self-funded with riders and carers fundraising to pay for entries, uniforms and accommodation.
“The Royal Agricultural Society is great to us – the RDA classes are only $20 dollars,” Ms Feaney said.
However, the team still needed to get the horses there and back, pay for accommodation, and buy uniforms.
“We would really love to be able to provide the riders and volunteers with team jackets and also team rugs for the horses,” Ms Feeney said.
“Belonging, team spirit and solidarity is something that is often lacking for many of our riders so this is a great opportunity for them – it’s a great opportunity for someone to sponsor a good cause.”
