A sunny day with a brisk north-east breeze around 15 knots enabled an excellent day’s sailing off the beach at Coila Lake last Sunday.

In the first race of the day Mongoose (Rick Marsden) shot to a handy lead over the first two triangles, but an unscheduled stop for repairs allowed Knockout (Rob Currall) through to take line honours.
However, when the times were adjusted for the boat yardsticks, the big Windrush Tradewind (Allan Rees and Steve Lake) was the winner by the very narrow margin of three seconds over Knockout.
Third was Chilli (Anna and Ben Woolnough) who took their first swim of the season en route.
After further adjustment of the times for performance handicaps, Knockout was the winner followed by Tradewind with Dark Horse (Mark Barraclough) third.
Tradewind could not repeat her success in the second race, retiring with gear failure. This left the way clear for Knockout to sail faultlessly and take first place on both yardstick and performance handicap.
On yardstick, Mongoose was second and Chilli again third; on performance handicap Dark Horse took second place from Mongoose.
Off-the-beach sailing takes place every second Sunday in front of the Kyla Park Recreation Hall. For more details, refer website bbsc.org.au.
