League leaders Bodalla Bulls took on Moruya Swans at Dalmeny oval on a clear and cool night on Friday, with the Bulls looking to extend their lead at the top and the Swans looking for their first points this season.
It didn’t take long for the Bulls to get into gear with a goal from Kyle Dixon after five minutes of play. Whether it was a cross or a shot from the right from Dixon, only he will know but it sailed over the unsuspecting Swans keeper, Ryan Staunton and into the left side netting to put the Bulls one goal to the good.
Moruya tried to hit back right away and, with an errant clearance from the Bodalla keeper, Swan’s striker Kye Park’s first-time effort curved and bounced, but didn’t quite make it in. Swan’s Arlo Crowley moments later missed his chance as the desperate Bulls defence closed in.
Dixon was at it again shortly after, following in an Elliot Bendixsen strike to double the Bulls advantage. More one way traffic from Bodalla resulted in another goal with some good lead up work from Ben Richie down the left. The ball found Jesse French just outside the 18 yard box who deflected to wrong foot Staunton and brought the score to three zip.
Moruya did not lay down though. Crowley took on the defence down the right and pulled the ball back for the unmarked Parks to gather his composure from the penalty spot and slot the ball home via the keeper.
And there was more to come for Moruya, with a penalty awarded to them towards the end of the first half. Jack Gynne coolly stepped up to slot it home with the keeper once more getting a touch, but unable to prevent it rattling the net.
With half time just minutes away Bendixsen picked the ball up on the left before cutting inside and sliding past a few Swans defenders on the edge of the box and sending a low strike into the bottom left of the goal.
For much of the second half Bodalla controlled the possession, trying to find more holes to exploit. The Swans attacked fast through Parks, Crowley and Gynne trying to get the Bulls on the counter.
Bodalla we able to put two more in the back of the net via Mitchell Smith and Ryan Hollis. The Swans converted another Gynne penalty to reduce the deficit, but the Bulls were to close out the game comfortably.
Dixon and Bendixsen were the pick for the Bulls. Crowley and Parks of the Swans took it to the Bulls defence but just leaked too many goals to give themselves a chance.
This week’s games head back to Gundary Oval with Batemans Bay taking on the Blue’s and Clyde meeting Bodalla. Games are at 6pm and 7:45pm this Friday the 23rd .
