He has recently been appointed Cricket NSW regional coach for the South Coast, Shoalhaven and Batemans Bay region, as part of the new Cricket NSW regional program.
The role includes involvement in the selection of representative teams both at Regional and Southern/ACT level.
Mr Wells has a sought after mix of playing background and coaching skills. He has played at the top level in Sydney for 13 years, winning premierships and twice posting 1000+ runs in Sydney First Grade.
Only last year he scored 970 runs at an average of 45, including a near match winning performance in the Final where he scored 95 runs. Wells has also played at 2nd XI level for NSW.
The appointment of a Cricket NSW regional coach for the region is a significant step to providing the regions elite young talent with the opportunity to further develop their games and progress in the Cricket NSW player pathway.
“Phil will be offering a regional program that is aligned closely with the Cricket NSW curriculum,” coach and pathway manager for southern NSW Greg McLay said.
“Phil understands the types of outcomes Cricket NSW would like to achieve with the program and he has the skills and knowledge to deliver an outstanding development program for the best young talent in the region.”
Wells will turn out for the Campbelltown Camden Cricket Club for his 14th season this year, where he will take on a leadership role while coaching the Poidevin Gray team.
The program runs from September-December to prepare for the Southern Cricket Zone representative season in November and state based carnivals.
He has the skills and knowledge to deliver an outstanding development program."
