Elise Toyer, of St Peter’s Anglican College, is one of three young NSW women chosen as an emerging leader in the Country to Canberra contest.
Elise in August was named Quota Regional Student of the Year.
Now she is one of a dozen high school students who have won an all-expenses-paid trip to meet politicians, and advocate for gender equality and for rural Australia.
Elise, 15, of Batemans Bay was one of more than 130 students who made their pitch with videos and stories on gender issues.
She’ll attend a Powerful Women’s Breakfast at the Hyatt Hotel, undertake training with TEDx, meet federal ministers and listen during Parliament Question Time.
"In past years, girls have met with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, Deputy Opposition Leader Tanya Plibersek, Minister Fiona Nash and Senator Jacqui Lambie,” contest CEO Hannah Wandel said.
Country to Canberra has created a list of the Top 40 entries, published on its website. It is also passionate about keeping all the entrants involved in the organisation.
“We want to empower all rural girls to reach their leadership potential, and that’s why we’re soon introducing workshops for schools. We need to continue to encourage young women’s leadership, fight for gender equality and a fairer and more progressive Australia for all,” Ms Wandel said.
Elise will be in Canberra from November 20-23. Visit: www.countrytocanberra.com.au
