“Sergeant Mick McPherson, (Far South Coast LAC crime coordinator) spoke to local businesses in regards to sponsoring a vehicle, and after a period of time, he and Clyde Mitsubishi’s Anthony Hall came up with this new Mitsubishi ASX,” Far South Coast LAC Detective Superintendent Peter O’Brien said.
“It is in accordance with the Far South Coast LAC’s policy of acting in community spirit.”
The vehicle is owned by Clyde Mitsubishi, and the dealership will pay for all expenses except fuel (diesel), which will be paid for by police.
“It will be used for a whole range of purposes, including crime prevention, youth liaison, community liaison, public gatherings, police functions and safety awareness including making sure kids wear helmets on their bikes and safety apparel like lifejackets out on the water.”
The vehicle is all-wheel drive and it has special markings applied by Clyde Mitsubishi’s Matt Davenne, and Supt O’Brien said that these are to “reflect the southern region.”
“With its high visibility we are hoping people see the car and get the message in a subtle way,” he said.
“Research has shown that a high visibility product is a good way to get a message out.”
Although the Far South Coast Local Area Command extends from Batemans Bay to the Victorian border, Supt O’Brein said the vehicle would spend a lot of time in Batemans Bay.
