The Tigers will get a chance to welcome many talented Group 16 and Seven players when it hosts a gala day at Mackay Park on February 28.
It’s possible three games will be played with the Group 16 All Stars against the Milton-Ulladulla Bulldogs, the Indigenous All Stars against Group Seven premiers Nowra, and Bemboka may bring its under 18s to face Batemans Bay.
Mitchell said the three-game day would feature some of the players from Group 16 and Group Seven.
“It would be a huge start to the 2015 season as we welcome rugby league back to Mackay Park,” Mitchell said.
Another item on the agenda was a reshuffling of the group executive.
The meeting was chaired by regional manager Kevin Felgate and Country Rugby League (CRL) representative Robert Lowrie.
Dean Lynch from Cooma was reappointed president, Louise Lynch as treasurer and Allan Wilton from Bega was appointed as a vice-president after Russell Fitzpatrick of Tathra resigned from the board.
Mitchell said the meeting cleared some administrative details yet there were still details, particularly the draw, to be completed.
“The draw was not finalised but the most probable outcome will be an eight-team competition, with a three-round preseason starting either March 8 or 15 and an early September grand final,” Mitchell said.
The Group 16 Indigenous All Stars game, which was played at Mackay Park early this year, will also be held again next season.
The CRL Greater Southern Academy squad was put through its paces at Mackay Park last Saturday under the watchful eyes of the CRL training team.
The session was catered by the Bay Tigers and Mitchell praised David, Katrina and Michelle for their efforts.
The Tigers held their last training run and barbecue this week and the club wishes the best to all the players and members for the Christmas and New Year break before returning to training next year.
Mitchell said the club could concentrate on reducing the debt and putting three sides on the park after three months of work by the committee.
“After three months of weekly meetings, pretty hectic administrative activities and fundraising, the club can now concentrate on the main business at hand,” he said.
The Bayview ham raffles will continue through the festive season and Duncan, the club’s mascot, is going on tour to ask some questions to gauge the feelings of the locals about the move to Group 16.
