Organisers Dan Palmer and Hannah Penberthy, granddaughter of local ovarian cancer survivor and advocate Sylvia Penberthy, hope to raise more than $30,000 for research at the first fun run.
“We have committed to donating 20 per cent of the total amount raised to Ovarian Cancer Australia,” Mr Palmer said.
“The aim is to see the amount raised grow as the event does.”
They hope 2000 competitors will enter one of the four categories - six and 14km fun runs, a 21km half marathon and 42.2km full marathon.
“We have tried to cater for everyone,” Mr Palmer said.
“The event is all about having fun, creating awareness and living a healthy lifestyle.
“It is for everyone; you can walk it, run it or even take your pram.”
Although Mr Palmer and Miss Penberthy run a company setting up obstacle courses and mud runs, the Run For Teal venture is not for profit.
“It’s not a profitable venture for us; we will be lucky if we break even,” Mr Palmer said.
“As it builds, hopefully it will become self- sufficient for the town.”
The organisers have committed to holding the run for a minimum of three years but are hoping to keep it running for five years.
It will be held in October to bring money into the town during the quiet season.
“Most of the participants will be coming from outside the shire,” Mr Palmer said.
“We want to bring a cash influx to the area and inject it into local businesses in the quieter months.”
Run For Teal will be launched at 6.30pm on Friday night at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club.
The launch is a fundraising dinner for Ovarian Cancer Australia and will have guest speakers, including three-time Olympian Jenny Owens, a two-course meal and a silent auction.
Tickets are $45 and can be purchased online at http://inchbyinch.com.au/launch-party/.
