Committee member Cheryl Sutherland was encouraged by the improvement of the children’s skill level.
There were plenty of goals scored in the one-on-one games and good tackling was displayed.
“Takahi Newberry and Lily McLeod especially stood out with their tackling ability,” Sutherland said.
The award winners were Lily McLeod and Fynn Kay.
The junior’s seven to 12-year old age group played their games in good spirit and showed excellent sportsmanship.
The Yellows had a tough tussle in overcoming the Multi Colours on field one.
The Yellows managed to score two goals in the second half to give them a 3-1 victory.
The Reds played the Greys in a high-scoring match.
The Greys went to a commanding 4-1 lead but the Reds battled back and eventually evened the score.
In the dying stages of the match Greys put in the final goal for a 5-4 win.
The award winners were Clayton Wells and Sofia Pappas.
In the first senior game of the afternoon CBK played Wanderers.
Wanderers took a 1-nil lead but when the “slow coaches” of CBK took to the field the game turned around.
CBK turned it on and won 5-1 against a “much improved” Wanderers.
Kate Brown scored the sole goal for Wanderers while Hayley Bettridge nabbed a double for CBK.
Louisa Bonner, Lindsay Pepper and Kat Buttsworth also scored for CBK.
Wanderers best and fairest were Nicole Compton, Sue Donaldson and Cheryl Sutherland.
CBK’s best were Hayley Bettridge, Cathy Smith and Aralai Anuyahong.
Sticks and Strikers played a hard-fought 3-3 draw in the second afternoon match.
Sticks had the advantage going into half-time with a 2-1 lead. However Strikers were not to be denied in the second half and evened the score.
Best and fairest for Strikers went to Gabi Harding, Rick Seiker and Jess Dwyer. Sticks’ best were Lyndall Lotze, Dale Sponberg and Lindy Hudson.
Rosie Scott scored two and Therese Pryor also scored for Strikers.
Sticks’ scorers were Lindy Hudson, Ros Smith and Taylar Kingston.
The trivia night proved to be a fun night with Strikers being the “table of knowledge”.
“Dean Thomas and Darryl Walsh were spotted by talent scouts from the X factor with their melodic voices,” Sutherland said.
There will be no hockey this weekend as some of the members attend the Vets championships.
“We wish them the best of luck,” she said.
